** A shout out to Paul, our server **
Today was our first time at the Derby Room. Paul took time to go over the menu. My daughter had the taquitos.. she said they were the best she ever had...I had the steak sandwich... OMG.... and my husband had the Philly which bursted with flavor.
PAUL, thank you for going the extra mile. We appreciated your hospitality. -

If you're looking for a delicious gourmet burger... PASS on Derby. If you like honest and comprehensive food reviews, read on. If not, Bottom Line: save your money, drive 4 minutes up the street and get a double double from In & Out.
Came here with my coworkers after a long day hoping to enjoy some great food and exciting NBA/NFL action.
Service = Meh...
We called ahead to make a reservation and were seated immediately when we arrived so that was nice. Drinks came out quickly, however, we ended up waiting over an hour for our food to come out.
I actually don't mind waiting for food, but what I don't appreciate is when servers tell us our food is coming out soon and 20 more minutes goes by...
Food = All is forgiven as long as my food hits the spot! It doesn't even have to be great... if it's half decent, I'm a happy camper! I'm the kind of guy that enjoys pretty much anything from cheap frozen Hot Pockets to perfectly cooked, melt-in-your-mouth Filet Mignon.
I got the Casey burger (14.99 w/out tax) , requested medium rare with caramelized onions added. Also had waffle fries on the side.
(Specs: toasted sesame bun, grilled beef hot dog, 1/2 lb beef burger, bacon, fried egg, cheese, onion, pickles, lettuce, tomato)
Sounds pretty epic on paper right? When they finally served my burger and fries over an hour later, it looked delicious, like it belonged in a commercial. I should have taken a picture but I was so gosh darn hungry I didn't even care anymore, I just wanted to dig in!
I wanted to like it... I really did.
The burger patty (which was requested medium rare) was cooked to death. Like nuclear. Not juicy whatsoever. I've literally had frozen burgers that tasted 10x better. Huge disappointment and I wish that was the only issue.
The bacon was like an expired piece of beef jerky. It's been an hour since I left the restaurant and my jaw is still sore from chewing on that strip of bacon. No joke.
Wait that's not it. I'm big on my caramelized onions. That's like the icing and cherry on top for me. I was expecting some savory, sweet flavor from the onions, but somehow...someway... they still managed to even screw up the caramelized onions. They had some decent color on them which looked promising BUT they were still slightly crunchy with a slight hint of raw onion flavor. I don't even know how that's possible but I kid you not, that's what I was served.
The waffle fries.... Even the waffle fries.... which looked perfectly cooked on the outside, were totally, utterly overcooked on the inside. Borderline crunchy. The kind of texture when you leave McDonald's fries in the bag open for a couple hours.
I could go on, but I'll end it here. My thumbs are tired.
If you want to pay $16+ for a gourmet burger meal that just leaves you disappointed when you leave dinner, this is the place for you.
More thoughts:
One of my coworkers got a pepperoni and sausage pizza and another got the prime rib. How'd they like it? Well, one of them ate about 1/4 of his prime rib and took home the leftovers to feed to his dogs and the other said the pizza was comparable to the quality and taste that you'd get at the airport. -

Breakfast at the Derby Room is Amazing. Love the Eggs Benedict for sure.
If you are lucky enough to have Christina as your server.... you will not be disappointed. Personable, down to earth and great sense of humor.
Highly recommend this place. Great ambiance, tons of TVs and don't forget the food. That kitchen has something going back there. -

General Description:
Sports bar environment/ restaurant set up for betting on horse races.
The good:
- Food was pretty good.
- A ton of tv's with different sporting events televised.
The bad:
- The service was horrible! The server visited our table for the order and was MIA. I had to go to the bar to pay my check. And it wasn't that busy.
Overall:
This review is solely based on the poor service. Based on the food and the environment I would try this place another shot sometime in the future. -

If you like that local bar/eatery feel this is the place. The Derby Room is located behind the Goodwill retail store and if you're not looking you'd miss it.
We came there for a late lunch/early dinner and the wait was 1 hour! The menu is diverse as it's patrons. From American (read burgers) to Asian fare (they even server pho!!)
My daughter got the fettuccine Alfredo, wide got the Italian torpedo and I ordered the 16 oz probe rib.
My daughter is a fettuccine already expert and she said it was ok. The sauce was creamy but lacked a bit of seasoning but I suppose you can adjust to your liking.
Wife's torpedo was on point serving size I feel was perfect and it was picked full of deli meats.
My prime rib was good, I ordered medium rare but due to it's popularity I ended getting it on a bit more of a medium. I did have to add salt to the aus jus. The meat or rather the cut was great. Just had to add a dash of salt. (note: I compare my prime rib to Houston's so if you've had their PR you'll know what I'm talking about).
The pricing is perfect IMO my PR was only $16 so you cannot complain. I've had PR at wood ranch and BJ's and this place is a lot better.
Next time I'm going to try the 1/2# burgers that they have listed it just looked amazing.
Oh did you know you can watch and make bets for the house racing that's on the TV? Well you can and it gets really rowdy when people are rooting for their horse.
All in all its a fun place staff is really pleasant and service was prompt.
Definitely come give this place a visit.
